چکیده

RedBlade is a multi-functional autonomous vehicle with two seasonal configurations which allow it to plow snow in the winter and mow grass in the summer. This vehicle participated in the Institute of Navigation’s (ION) 1 st Autonomous Snowplow Competition in January 2011 and in the 8 th ION Robotic Lawnmower Competition in June 2011. It won 2 nd place in the former. This report presents the design and implementation of the RedBlade mechanical systems, sensor components, software architecture, control algorithm, and safety systems.

Effective Mechatronic Models and Methods for Implementation an Autonomous Soccer Robot

Omni directional mobile robots have been popularly employed in several applications especially in soccer player robots considered in Robocup competitions. However, Omni directional navigation system, Omni-vision system and solenoid kicking mechanism in such mobile robots have not ever been combined. This situation brings the idea of a robot with no head direction into existence, a comprehensi...

Multi-agent Software Architecture for Autonomous Robots: a Practical Approach

Received: 11 October 2010 Abstract Accepted: 25 November 2010 This paper analyses the issues of designing software for an autonomous robot, which is perceived as a real-time, multi-stage data processing system. We focus on a functional analysis of the data-driven world-modelling and motion planning tasks performed by the robot, and then we develop a multi-agent software architecture, which guar...

Autonomous Characterization of Unknown Environments

Key to the autonomous exploration of an unknown area, by a scientific robotic rover is the ability of the vehicle to autonomously recognize objects of interest and generalize about the region. This paper presents a Bayesian framework under which a mobile robot can learn how different classes of objects are distributed over a geographical region, using imperfect observations and non-random sampl...

To the Bookstore! Autonomous Wheelchair Navigation in an Urban Environment

In this paper, we demonstrate reliable navigation of a smart wheelchair system (SWS) in an urban environment. Urban environments present unique challenges for service robots. They require localization accuracy at the sidewalk level, but compromise GPS position estimates through significant multi-path effects. However, they are also rich in landmarks that can be leveraged by feature-based locali...

Navigation of a Mobile Robot Using Virtual Potential Field and Artificial Neural Network

Mobile robot navigation is one of the basic problems in robotics. In this paper, a new approach is proposed for autonomous mobile robot navigation in an unknown environment. The proposed approach is based on learning virtual parallel paths that propel the mobile robot toward the track using a multi-layer, feed-forward neural network. For training, a human operator navigates the mobile robot in ...
